Juicy berries, refreshing peppermint and naturally sweet apple cider combine to create this easy, calming mocktail designed to help you relax in the evening.

We’ve always known berries are little nutritional powerhouses, but there is also some evidence to suggest they may assist with getting a good night’s sleep. Berries contain a natural sleep hormone called melatonin, as well as antioxidants and other essential nutrients, so they are perfect to consume in the evening.

Peppermint tea is known to have a soothing effect on the mind and body, making it ideal for winding down. Naturally caffeine free and helpful for digestion, peppermint tea is one of the best choices for sipping after dinner and before bedtime. 

Berries and peppermint tea pair perfectly with sweet apple and tart lemon, which means this simple mocktail is not just functional, but delicious too. Even better, this recipe is made right in your glass with no shakers or saucepans required, saving you time on washing up before bed!

Recipe tips: berries thawed from frozen are generally juicier and richer in color than fresh berries, especially when berries are out of season, so don’t be afraid to use them!

We always recommend fresh lemon juice for mocktails but bottled also works if necessary. Be sure to choose a bottle lemon juice without added sugar.

Ingredients

  • 10 berries of your choice (fresh or thawed)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (or your sweetener of choice)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) lemon juice
  • 2 oz (60 ml) still apple cider
  • 3 oz (90 ml) chilled peppermint tea
  • Optional: fresh berries and dehydrated lemon for garnish
 

Method

Place the berries and your maple syrup (or sweetener of choice) in your glass. Muddle well until the berries are mashed and the juices are released. Add the lemon juice, then add some ice to your glass. Pour in the apple cider and peppermint tea. Stir well to combine. Garnish with your choice of lemon and/or berries.
