At long last, the first day of spring is finally here. After a cold and frigid winter, the earth is thawing, the sun is shining and the birds are singing their songs just a little bit louder. If there was ever something to celebrate – it’s this.

The feeling of the earth awakening after a long winter’s slumber is one to relish, and the brighter mornings and slowly warming temperatures are often the signals to our bodies that’s it’s time to transition to the lighter fare of the season. After a winter spent grounding ourselves with nourishing roots and staving off germs with bright winter citrus, we have farmers’ markets to look forward to and the bounty of fresh veggies, herbs and fruit therein that will soon come our way.

Packing our plates with seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs is one of the best ways to support our bodies throughout the year, especially during seasonal transitions when many of us are left more susceptible to sniffles and sneezes thanks to fluctuating temperatures. And one of our favorite ways to pack in as many vitamins and nutrients as possible is a daily green juice. As green as spring grass, a daily homemade green juice is your customizable nutritional superstar, filled to the gills with all the good stuff and the perfect pick-me-up as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack (we don’t recommend a green juice as a total meal replacement, as they lack the protein and fiber needed for a well-rounded meal), or accompaniment to your breakfast or lunch.

 

3 Green Juice Recipes

Today we’re sharing three green juice recipes to help you take on the new season with a spring in your step and a healthy glow on your face. Find them below – the hardest part is choosing which one to make first.

Tip: if you don’t own a juicer, add all ingredients to your high-speed blender with a little water, strain, and add more water if desired. Then drink up!

Ginger Zing Juice

Ingredients:

  • 2 carrots – use white carrots if you’re looking for extra green juice
  • 1 apple, seeds removed
  • 1 large knob fresh ginger
  • 2-3 big handfuls of fresh spinach
  • Juice from 1 lemon

How to: Run all ingredients except the lemon through your juicer. Juice the lemon and add to the juice. Add ice water, if desired.

 

Cucumber-Celery Mojito Juice

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 2 packed cups of kale
  • 1 green apple, seeds removed
  • Small handful of mint
  • Juice from 1 lime

How to: Run all ingredients except the lime through your juicer. Juice the lime and add to the juice. Add ice water, if desired.

 

Tropical Pineapple Juice

Ingredients:

  • 1 large bunch swiss chard
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 1 sprig of fresh mint
  • Juice from 1 grapefruit
  • Small handful of basil

How to: Run all ingredients except the grapefruit through your juicer. Juice the grapefruit and add to the juice. Add ice water, if desired.
